UBS is committed to environmental stewardship and sustainable business practices. A greener approach is not always the easy choice but it will be beneficial to our future generations that follow. UBS has established various recycling, energy consumption and environmental impact policies.
We also offer many choices for our clients to reduce the impact on our environment. You may ask your sales professional about our caliper reduction initiative, energy and recycling benefits of cold foil over hot stamp or poly foil board. UBS also is a certified chain of custody supplier for Sustainable Forest Initiative (SFI) certified paperboard options.
Our energy provider SCE leads the nation in renewable energy. This constitutes 17 percent of the energy we purchase. In the near future this will rise to 20 percent with the contacts currently in place.
Energy Consumption & Demand Response Programs – UBS participates in a program in which we reduce our energy usage during peak periods. Our participation makes a difference in our states energy management. This allows the energy provider from adding power to the smart grid. SCE notifies UBS to reduce our energy at peak demand periods. We voluntarily reduce our usage.
In-line Cold Foil Energy Reduction – UBS is a leader in Cold Foil Technology. Few companies can offer this leading edge technology combining environmental energy saving and foil board quality graphics. This process eliminates the need for poly coating to foil board which is difficult to recycle. Carbon footprint is also reduced by as much as 75 percent as compared to conventional hot stamp foiling techniques.
Low Emission (Volatile Organic Compound) & Alcohol-Free Printing – We are proud of our effort to eliminate every VOC we can, we are alcohol-free on every press and employ energy curable inks. Our UV presses emit low levels of emissions into the environment. This is good for our employees health and the environment.
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids. VOCs include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short- and long-term adverse health effects. Concentrations of many VOCs are consistently higher indoors (up to ten times higher) than outdoors. VOCs are emitted by a wide array of products numbering in the thousands.
Caliper Reduction Initiative – UBS sales associates can examine your products and reduce the caliper of fine paper and paperboard where structure and market conditions allow. By using a smaller caliper of paper you use less paper and less paper means less environmental impact, also the reduced weight could reduce your carbon footprint and logistic costs.
UBS is a duel certified supplier of fine papers and paperboard products. We offer a wide range of certified paper to our clients and in turn they can use the FSC or SFI logo in their projects artwork.
Sustainable Paperboard – The SBS grades of paperboard offered at UBS is recyclable, biodegradable, compostable and chlorine-free. Most SBS board virgin fiber is made from residual wood waste yielded as a by-product of saw mill shaving. UBS offers a complete line of commercial paper and paperboard with a variety of post consumer content. Our paper suppliers have developed new natural biological techniques to produce cleaner waste water in the paper making process. UBS holds our suppliers to the strictest environment standards and will not sell products derived from endangered, tropical or temperate rainforests. All materials used to manufacture are renewable resources.
UBS installed waste paper collection system 10 years before others were concerned of such issues. The waste that is left over after projects have been trimmed and die-cut is collected and recycled, never sent to a landfill. We recycled an average of 200,000 lbs. of paper per month.
Office Recycling – We instituted a program to recycle waste paper, aluminum cans, and plastic containers.
